Fifth strategic human resources conference approaches

12 Oct 2022

The 5th Strategic Human Resources Conference slated for Gaborone-GICC next week is set to bring together human resource practitioners and thought leaders who will review the impact of COVID-19 on the working environment, culture, employee mental health, and safety.

“Emerging transformation, innovative human capital management and leadership development models will be shared during the conference to contribute to the country’s economic and reset agenda,” said Progressive Institute chief executive officer, Mr Mmoloki Mmolotsi during a media briefing on Tuesday.

The conference, held in partnership with Hollard Life, had been scheduled for October 19-20  and would feature over 26 speakers and panellists to discuss topical issues among them resilience and productivity, hybrid working approach as well as  business sustainability.

For her part, head of sales at Hollard Life, Ms Reason Nyamambi said after the COVID-19 experience, wellness and wellbeing became a priority for every individual and employer.

Ms Nyamambi said the human resources practitioners found themselves tasked with a mammoth task of overseeing the creation of environments that promoted wellness.

She said winning cultures were built on the foundation of people that were in a secure state of mind, adding that culture also determined how far an organisation could go towards achieving its objectives.

“Most organisations are going through a rebirth process of some sort after COVID-19.

These processes are causing some uncertainties and instability across the corporate landscape,” she said.

Ms Nyamambi said all these were putting pressure on organisations and the human resources fraternity to create a reassuring environment despite other complicated dynamics.

She said the challenge was to retain individuals with much-needed skills to carry the organisation into the new future, mentioning that employee benefits in that regard were a crucial platform for retention.

She said Hollard was constantly striving to create products that met the evolving needs of their clients, and insurance solutions for today’s challenges.

The conference was held under the theme: The Great Reorganisation: Building Winning Workplace Cultures in a World Transformed. ENDs
