Botswana Savings Bank donates to Masilo JSS

Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) has donated educational equipment worth over P150 000 to Masilo Junior Secondary School in Molepolole.

The equipment include a four-in-one duplication machine (printer/scanner/faxing and copying machine), five desktop computers and a 65 inch Samsung television set.

Speaking during the donation ceremony at the school on Tuesday, Molepolole South MP, Mr Kabo Morwaeng, said the equipment would help improve the school’s academic performance.

He said BSB was contributing towards a conducive and efficient learning environment.

“By educating a child, we are taking a fundamental step towards sustainable development of our country,” he said.

Mr Morwaeng, who is also the Minister for State President, said an educated child carried hope for their families, therefore education played a crucial role in community upliftment and poverty eradication.

“Government offers free basic education and sponsored tertiary and vocational education. Over the years, a substantial amount of resources has always been directed towards education as evidenced by minister of education’s allocation of the second largest share of the national budget,” he said.

However, he said government could not do it alone due to a myriad of development and fiscal challenges.

“This, therefore, calls for the private sector development partners, non-governmental stakeholders and most importantly parents, to be crucial partners in educating our children,” he said.

He called upon parents to also play their part in shaping desirable future leaders.

Mr Morwaeng said parents should play their roles as adults while pupils should be allowed to act as children, nurtured and guided well.

“As parents, we need to give more serious attention to our children and by working well and supporting our teachers. Some are already doing this while others are lagging behind,” he said.

He commended the staff, teaching and non-teaching, of Masilo JSS who worked tirelessly to ensure children received quality education in their institution.

For his part, the BSB chief executive officer, Mr Nixon Marumoloa, said their corporate social responsibility (CSR) had been centered around education, adding they assisted communities in areas they operated from.

He said the decision to donate to Masilo was guided by the needs of the school.

Furthermore, BSB was attracted by the school’s academic performance as it had been in the top three in Kweneng region

The school head, Mrs Boitshoko Selema, expressed her gratitude, adding the equipment would lead to an improvement in academic performance.

He said their goals for excellence could only be achieved if they had resources and thanked BSB for coming to their rescue. Ends
