Bagwaketse royal family unveils tombstones

06 Oct 2022

Bagwaketse Royal family on Wednesday unveiled tombstones for Kgosi Leema Gaseitsewe and Queen Mother Retse Gaseitsewe.

The unveiling coincided with Kgosi Malope II’s 10th enthronement anniversary, just two days before his wedding.

Speaking during the event, a family representative, Mr Kwenantle Gaseitsewe thanked Kgosi Malope II and the family for finding it fit to unveil the tombstones, a gesture which he said showed love and respect for the departed.

He highlighted that Mma Leema played a crucial role in bringing the family together as she treated all children as her own, adding that they grew up as a tight knit family due to her kindness.

Mr Gaseitsewe said Queen Retse took good care of her son, Kgosi Leema during his long illness, which showed the love she had for her children.

He said Kgosi Leema was outgoing and loved joking, adding that just like his mother, he was  loving.

Kgosi Thatayaone Makaba of Segwetshane ward, thanked the family for the unveiling, saying the cemetery would, in future, be used for educational purposes and as a tourist attraction site.

He therefore urged those responsible to ensure that it was always in a good state.

Organising Committee member of Kgosi Malope II’s 10th  enthronement anniversary and wedding ceremony, Ms Kelebetse Latelang, said they approached Gangwaketse Kgosikgolo about the unveiling of tombstones, while his uncles from Lesotho were available for the other ceremonies and he was happy with the idea.

“We wanted to kill two birds with one stone, the uncles were coming for the two ceremonies, it was important to include this third one rather than inviting them again for the unveiling of tombstones,” she added.

She expressed gratitude to Smart Funerals for making the event a success by availing tombstones, tents and some refreshments gratis. Ends
