President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi on Monday visited the Rathedi residence in Mogoditshane to condole the family of Ms Kate Rathedi, 95, who was laid to rest last Saturday.

Ms Rathedi was mother to sons Reuben “Raj” and Walter, renowned athlete and former national football team coach respectively as well as daughter Bernadette, former chief of protocol, Botswana ambassador to Brazil and Sweden.

President Masisi said he found it fitting to convey condolences to the family in person due to the positive contributions the deceased‘s children had made to the nation.

“On behalf of government and the people of Botswana, it is very appropriate for me to console this family as the Rathedi’s flew the country’s flag high in various sporting activities as well in promoting Botswana’s foreign policy abroad,” the President said.

He described the deceased as a gracious woman who inspired her children to be the best at whatever they did. 

She should therefore be a model on how to groom children into responsible adults, said Dr Masisi. Ends
