02 Oct 2022
The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has donated two bus shelters worth over P70 000 to Salajwe and Mantshwabisi (Matlagase) residents.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony recently, MVA Fund senior corporate communications manager, Mr Mookodi Seisa, said the donation showed the positive relationship and partnership with the two communities.
He said the fund was committed to working with communities through various platforms in an effort to deliver its road safety messages.
Mr Seisa also said the donation affirmed MVA assurance to deliver its mandate as part of the corporate social investment and capacity building.
He noted that the shelters were worth over P70 000 and had been decorated with MVA products and services.
The corporate communications manager urged residents to ensure that the shelters were not vandalised and the messages remained legible.
Mr Seisa encouraged residents to continue working with the MVA Fund in the promotion of road safety.
He said they were concerned about the increasing number of road accidents and fatalities, especially of pedestrians.
He noted that 277 people lost their lives in road accidents from last year to September, 25 2022 and that 242 died in road accidents in the corresponding period in 2021.
“This is an increase of 35 more deaths and it is worrisome. I encourage you to remain vigilant and drive safely as we approach the independence holidays,” he said.
Giving the project background, Letlhakeng Sub-district Ipelegeng coordinator, Ms Masego Sabata said they were facing challenges of funding some community projects. She said they wished to fund all projects as prioritised by villages, but that it was not possible.
She said they wrote to the MVA Fund requesting assistance and that the response was positive.
Kgosi Moala Gaerupe of Salajwe was happy that the shelters would shield residents against harsh weather conditions and the baking sun.
Giving a vote of thanks, Letlhakeng Sub-district assistant council secretary, Mr Tumelo Seboko said they were honoured to have received the bus shelters from the MVA Fund.
Mr Seboko also thanked the MVA Fund for helping them with the bus shelters. Ends
