01 Oct 2022

Semboyo community in the Ngamiland district was left reeling in shock as two people died after their hut was engulfed in flames on independence eve.

In an interview, Sehithwa police station commander, Superintendent Nshaki Mabophiwa confirmed that they were investigating an incident where a 42-year-old man and his eight-year-old son died after their hut caught fire at Semboyo.

Supt. Mabophiwa said they received a report around 11:50pm from an eyewitness who was with the deceased prior to the incident.

He said the corpses were taken to Letsholathebe Memorial hospital for post mortem while investigations were continuing to establish the cause of the fire.

On one hand, Supt. Mabophiwa said they were investigating an incident in which a Toyota Yaris veered off the road and rolled near Makgokong cattlepost on Independence Day along the A3 Road.

He said the vehicle which was driven by a 24-year-old woman, was from Maun heading to Toteng village with four passengers who however sustained minor injuries.

Nevertheless, Supt. Mabophiwa said Independence Day was calm and peaceful and thanked residents for their cooperation and acting responsibly. Ends
