Independence celebrations back after hiatus

Independence day celebrations are back at the National Stadium following their suspensions due to COVID-19 pandemic.

A series of activities have been lined up as part of the 56th independence celebration.

As has been tradition, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi will join other Batswana, diplomats and friends of Botswana at the National Stadium on Independence eve to kick start the celebrations watching fireworks and battle of the disciplined forces’ music band performances.

The 56th independence celebrations come at a time when the country is recovering from the effects of COVID-19 hence the theme: Reviving Hope after COVID-19 and Beyond.

The president is also expected to deliver the speech during the main event on September 30 at the stadium.

The day will also feature ceremonial parade, artistic and cultural performances, parachute display and disciplined forces band performances.

Still on independence day, in the afternoon The Mares and Namibia’s  Brave Gladiators will play friendly game at the National Stadium. ENDS
