Mahalapye Junior Secondary School, Parents Teachers Association committee (PTA) is resolute on improving the learning environment, with hope for better results.

Thanks to the committee, the school now owns a photocopying machine and is constructing an outdoor teaching area, efforts hailed by the Sub-region chief education officer, Ms Cecilia Sunday during a visit by Mahalapye West MP, Mr David Tshere on Wednesday September 21.

Ms Sunday said it was important for pupils to prepare early if they were to perform well.

She urged teachers to train learners to be independent and know that teachers existed to facilitate them and therefore, learning even in their absence, should continue.

Ms Sunday also encouraged teachers to work hard for promotions.

She said Pekenene JSS was the only school in Mahalapye that attained 50 per cent in Junior Certificate Examination (JCE) last year after a dry spell since 2012.

Ms Sunday said JCE results for schools in Mahalapye Sub-Region improved last year after performance for most school in the country dropped due to COVID-19.

For his part, Mr Tshere said schools in Mahalapye were capable of improving perfomance as evidenced by past years’ results.

“Let’s not just write exams, lets write to achieve the target which is 50 per cent. Let’s perfect our tactics to get good results,” stated Mr Tshere.

Mahalapye JSS head, Mr Hebert Kabelo said teachers needed moral support to produce good results. Mr Kabelo said they were intending to have a mini price giving through PTA, to encourage learners.

He said even though they scored 26.3 per cent ABC in mock exams, they believed the mark could improve.  ENDS
