Botswana prides itself in the management and prevention of diseases such as Malaria, Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, Acting President Slumber Tsogwane said Tuesday.
Speaking during a tour of Moreomaoto Clinic, he said Botswana was ranked number one in Africa on HIV/AIDS control.
Mr Tsogwane said Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission programme performance rating was also impressive.
He said it was encouraging to know that although Boteti was a Malaria prone area, no cases had been reported this season.
Mr Tsogwane said the good results from clinics proved that public education on prevention of diseases was effective.
The facilities were encouraged to continue in that spirit.
The acting president applauded Moremaoto Clinic staff for good performance and taking services to Batswana notwithstanding their challenging working conditions.
Good customer care provided a conducive environment for healing, he said.
Mr Tsogwane was responding to the clinic’s head, Ms Ookeditse Outlwile, who had earlier stated that patients enrolled on the Anti-Retroviral treatment programme were 100 per cent compliant.
Ms Outlwile had also indicated that the facility handled only one case of Malaria which was now under control.
The patient’s residence was also sprayed against the disease, she said.
On other issues, Ms Outlwile complained about shortage of accommodation, saying the clinic’s two nurses could not stay with family members as they had to share a house.
She also complained that the house was dilapidated.
In response, Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said shortage of accommodation would be addressed through National Development Plan 12.
On shortage of drugs, he said the ministry was working round the clock to address the problem. Ends
