Defence ministry ensures peace tranquility

Organs of the Ministry of Defence and Security are meant to serve people and offer peace and tranquillity to Batswana.
The Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi, said this at the official opening of a Ministerial Performance Improvement Committee retreat in Maun on Wednesday.
He said his ministry received a large development budget to instil and uphold the country’s security.
Minister Mmusi said it was imperative to ensure lives were improved by prudent use of funds for the right equipment and service.
He said there was an alarming rise in cross border theft, cash heists, petty theft, adding it was the ministry’s duty to eliminate such acts.
“We want to bring a steady life to our people so that they sleep and wake up in peace with their property and lives secured,’’ stated Minister Mmusi.
He stated that the bombing of ATMs and cash in transit heists posed severe security threats and strained the already limited resources.
He highlighted that such occurrences challenged them to adopt the stop, start or improve hard choices and actions and commit to continuous improvement of services as advocated by the Reset Agenda.
Mr Mmusi said it was important to craft a plan that would sync his ministry with the entire government, adding he believed upon culmination of this retreat such a plan would be launched.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and Security, Ms Botlhale Makgekgenene, stated that their aim was to be an excellent service provider.
She noted that it was important to share their understanding of the ministry’s mandate, functions and core services in light of the recent rationalisation.
“We need to work as a team so that we become a formidable team as we harmonise our various mandates as different departments.’’ Ms Makgekgenene encouraged officers to subscribe to the notion that no organisation could work in silos but in synergies.
The PS stated that it was imperative for their trademark to be visible so that Batswana know who they were. Ends
