UB Foundation avails educational opportunities

The University of Botswana (UB) Foundation continues to uphold the ideals of ‘Motho le Motho Kgomo’ concept, which underscores the spirit of self-reliance and giving.
Consequently, the foundation has sponsored 342 students through the Graduate Scholarship Endowment Fund that started with 15 students in 2003.
The foundation chairperson, Mr Abdul Dada, said this at the 20th annual UB Foundation dinner dance, which was graced by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi and First Lady Neo Masisi, in Gaborone on Friday.
“While the foundation is doing its work in a different motto where the beast is symbolically represented by cash donations from benefactors, the common goal is to enable Batswana educational opportunity with which they can realise their career goals as individuals and contribute to national development,” he said.
Mr Dada said the foundation had a long-standing and fruitful relationship with partners in and outside the country, based on the motto: Advancing Education Through Partnerships.
Meanwhile, University of KwaZulu Natal pro vice chancellor (research), Professor Salim Karim, advised UB to look for research grants from other international institutions instead of relying on government.
He also urged the management to always gauge output and successes saying the world was driven by knowledge.
“If you cannot generate a workforce that is ready to take challenges for the next generation, the whole country will struggle,” Professor Karim said.
He also underscored the need to explore possible areas of collaboration in research and other fields between the two universities. Ends
