Prioritise business plots allocation
07 Sep 2022
Letlhakane Sub-Land board has been urged to prioritise allocation of business plots.
The MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe made the call on Monday during a kgotla meeting in Letlhakane.
Mr Lelatisitswe, called for the fast-tracking of the allocation of spaces eyed for business, saying delaying such perpetuated poverty. “The appetite for business in Letlhakane is very high,” he emphasised.
Warning that issues of land had the potential to cause riots, he said the new land act was introduced to fast-track issues regarding land allocation.
He called for equal treatment of customers when discharging services, saying Batswana complained about land boards, urging them to close gaps and engage timeously.
The MP said there were indications that there was a problem both administratively and within the board.
Mr Lelatisitswe said the Sub-land board had published names of people to be allocated land, but it had not allocated land.
Specially elected Councillor Otsile Mmatlakgomo complained that although land overseers were knowledgeable on issues of land, they were not fully engaged.
Councillor Aaron Baitsemang of Letlhakane South expressed concern about the number of old aged people, who are occupied plots illegally.
In response, Land board Secretary, Ms Ntebaleng Thapelo said they had realised that most applicants on the waiting list had already been allocated plots.
On delays to help people identify pegs, Ms Thapelo said the land board had to go to the sites for the fields that did not have coordinates, hence the delay.
She warned that , those who occupied land illegally would face the law. Ends
