Forty-Eight government houses to undergo maintenance in MAA

Forty-eight houses accommodating public service workers in Maun Administrative Authority (MAA) are scheduled for maintenance this financial year while the remaining 74 will be considered in the future alongside others in a similar state across the country.
Answering a question in Parliament, Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale said of the 191 government-owned houses accommodating central government workers in MAA, 51 were in good condition, 124 in a fair condition and requiring maintenance while 16 were dilapidated. He said houses that required maintenance had been reported by tenants.He further noted that his ministry had submitted an inventory of dilapidated government residential structures to the Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs for determination.
Maun East MP, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile had asked the minister if he was aware of worsening inhabitable conditions of houses accommodating central government public service workers and to state the number of houses owned by government accommodating central government workers in the Maun Administrative Authority.
He also asked about the number of houses in good and bad condition, the number of houses which had been reported for maintenance by tenants as well as the number of abandoned and non-utilised government houses in Maun.
Additionally, Mr Kekgonegile asked what plans the ministry had in place to maintain houses, utilise abandoned houses or plots and the turnaround periods. ENDS
