Ministry to develop job seekers system
27 Jul 2022
The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs is developing an automated system for the registration and placement of job seekers, Labour and home affairs minister, Ms Annah Mokgethi has said.
The automated system, she informed Parliament on Tuesday July 26, would replace the current practice, which includes the placement of job seekers using a toss.
Ms Mokgethi said the development of the system was at procurement stage. She added that the work would be done in phases under the development of the labour market information system at the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC).
“The (automated system) approach was adopted at the request of the job seekers. It was deemed necessary to introduce this approach in order to address the job seekers concerns pertaining to lack of transparency in the placement of job seekers,” said the minister.
Ms Mokgethi said the automated system would also bring fairness and transparency to the process of selection and placement of job seekers.
She said the practice of using the yes or no selection method, registration cards or Omang cards for selection of job seekers had been used for a long time throughout the district labour offices across the country. She pointed out that the system had been in use for the past 10 years in Mahalapye.
Mahalapye West MP, Mr David Tshere had asked if the minister was aware that the Department of Labour in Mahalapye used the Omang card to toss for a job opportunity. Ends
