The proposed Letlhakane Police station project has been allocated P155 million, senior district officer development Ms Patience Fanikiso has told the Boteti sub-council session recently.
She stated that the budgeted funds covered works for the police station and staff housing.
The awarded project contractor, Heli/Mido Joint Ventures, she said had since signed contracts, adding that electrical and mechanical sub-contractors had also been appointed.
The project is expected to be completed in 720 days.
Commissioning and site handover to the contractor was to be done once all consultancy contracts were in place, Ms Fanikiso said, adding that there the date for commissioning of the project had not yet been set.
She said expenditure on construction of twenty staff houses at Orapa Junior Secondary School stood at P14. 5 million of P26. 5 million.
The project commenced in May 2019 and was anticipated to be completed by June 29, 2021, but was revised to July 17, 2022. Ms Fanikiso stated that physical progress of the project stood at 85 per cent and was ongoing.
She stated that all six units’ single storeys were ready for partial handover with four double storey units at roof level and rim beam.
The project, she said was delayed by late payments to the contractor and non-performance by the contractor.
Further she stated that budget expenditure stood of the design and construction of reverse osmosis plant and electrification of BH 5439 at Mmatshumo was at P7 million and the project was completed in March.
The contractor, she said was currently attending to snags identified at commissioning and shall be completed during the elapse of defects and liability period running for 12 months.
She stated that budget for Letlhakane waste water treatment ponds rehabilitation project funded by World Bank and designed by German Consultants, Hydroplan, was P60 million and expenditure was at P10 million.
She said consultancy services were completed.
At the time of reporting, she said the consultant was working on bidding and documentation for construction works expected to commence in September.
The project was expected to be completed in July 2023.
Delay, she said had mostly been due to modification of scope as well as project being handled from outside.
She noted that funds were not enough to cover network reticulation, hence the project was only on constructing wastewater treatment ponds.
Ms Fanikiso indicated that the project would enable Water Utilities Corporation to assist private entities to offload into new ponds. BOPA
