Private sector investment key in healthcare - Dr Dikoloti
12 Jun 2022
Investment by the private sector in the country’s healthcare system can go a long way in easing government’s healthcare burden. Health minister, Dr Edwin Dikoloti said this in appreciation of CA Sales, Choppies, Trans Kalahari, Flotek and Woolworths for their support to the Mabu Project, when officiating at its second gifting ceremony in Maun recently.
Dr Dikolotoi said the past two years had been tough for the country as it battled COVID 19, and thanked the companies for coming through to help mitigate the situation.
“Your efforts resonate well with our Setswana proverb ‘Moroto wa o esi ga o ele,’ he said, and expressed hope that other companies would follow suit.
The minister also thanked the South African High Commissioner for coming up with the initiative. Deputy South African High Commissioner, Mr Rondee Scherman said that the project was a celebration a new life. He commended the five companies for supporting it.
“When we approached these companies for assistance, they quickly rose to the occasion and donated some of their products [which are] contained in the hampers,” he said. Ms Keoagetse Manja’s baby became the initiative’s second recipient.
Project Mabu is an initiative by the South African High Commissioner to Botswana and the Ministry of Health, which celebrates and gifts first-born babies born on New Years’day, across the 18 District Health Management Teams (DHMTs).
The donation includes a comprehensive hamper with key essentials for new-born babies and a food hamper for the family. ends
