12 May 2022

Establishment of a service centre in Lerala will help bring services closer to residents of Lerala-Maunatlala constituency.

Addressing kgotla meetings in Lerala, Majwaneng and Ratholo this week Lerala/Maunatlala MP, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said establishment of a service centre in Lerala was long overdue.

He said Lerala was the face the constituency, hence the need for such a facility, adding it would be ideal since currently most services were accessed in Palapye.

Mr Modukanele noted that with a service centre, Lerala would see developments booming, therefore boosting the economy of the area.

“My wish is to see Lerala be turned into a sub-district or even a fully flashed Tswapong district,” he said.

He however said that such a dream could only be achieved through unity and teamwork in the  constituency.

The legislator also noted that Lerala had grown hence the need for street lights.

On other issues, MP assured constituents that this financial year Constituency Community Projects funds had been availed after a two year halt due to COVID-19.

He however, told constituents that government had taken a decision not to undertake any new projects this financial year, but to rather complete already existing projects and maintenance works.

Mr Modukanele highlighted that Moeding College in Palapye, which admitted pupils from his constituency was one of the facilities to undergo maintenance, following numerous complaints about the state of the school’s  hostels.

In a bid to promote or encourage income generating projects for the future generations, Mr Modukanele said government had re-engineered Ipelegeng programme.

Meanwhile, in almost all kgotla meetings in Lerala/Maunatlala constituency, residents decried delays in land allocation by land board.

They also complained about the turnaround time by relevant authorities to service land after allocation.

In Majwaneng and Ratholo, residents appealed for the maintenance of Majwaneng-Lerala gravel road, which is in a bad state.

They also appealed for the long promised Lerala primary hospital.

Majwaneng VDC chairperson, Mr Jackson Kentshitswe said there was need to upgrade the village clinic to provide maternity services.

He also decried shortage of medical drugs across Lerala-Maunatlala constituency health facilities, the situation, he said had been going on for a long time.

Shortage of accommodation for Majwaneng Primary School teachers, Mr Kentshitswe said was also a challenge, which  could be a contributing factor to low academic performance.

Meanwhile, responding to the issue of land allocation, Palapye Sub-land board chairperson, Mr Issac Maforaga told Lerala residents that land board was in the process of allocating residential plots and ploughing fields in the village starting June.

He also noted that the plan was to soon allocate 100 000 plots across Ngwato land board. Ends
