The late Reuben Kethoilwe, who was Councillor for Moselewapula Ward in Gerald Estates has been described as a humble and dedicated person.
He was buried in Tati Siding on Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) which Cllr Kethoilwe was a member of, Bobonong legislator Mr Taolo Lucas said the deceased took time to learn and familiarise himself with Botswana politics.
“He was a die-hard member of BCP since its inception and he also took his time to learn the party politics. He was not easily enticed by riches to other political parties,” he said.
Lucas said the 64-year-old was of the opinion that the country’s economy should benefit the people irrespective of party affiliation, adding that he strongly believed BCP was formed to alleviate poverty.
He said Cllr Kethoilwe performed his duties without pride and was eager to assist all.
City of Francistown Mayor Mr Godisang Radisigo who worked with Cllr Kethoilwe when he was the Deputy Mayor described him as someone who knew how to articulate issues in an organised manner saying he would reasonably comment, argue or come up with a solution to any issues on the table.
“He wanted to bring difference and as such, he worked for the nation without being partisan,” he said.
The deceased’s daughter, Ms Orelebe Kethoilwe said his father was attacked by colon cancer that also affected the kidneys
She said from July last year, cancer had spread through to the liver, which forced him to undergo 12 cycles of chemotherapy but it resulted in some challenges and complications.
“At some point, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and asthma attack,” she said noting that the situation was, however, controlled and brought back to normal.
His elder sister Ms Senai Kethoilwe noted that her brother was brought up in a strict family that was law-abiding. ENDS
