Trans-Africa and Mooniey Group has donated P1.7 million for the alteration and additions of Gasita Health Post.
Member of Parliament for Mmathethe-Molapowabojang, Dr Edwin Dikoloti expressed his gratitude at a consultative meeting recently in Gasita where he announced the donation.
He said the upgrade would add a maternity wing to the existing health post.
He said the tender had already been awarded to Self Reliance Builders (PTY) LTD, and the contractor was already at the site, adding that the project was anticipated to be complete before the end of the year.
“I am delighted to receive this noble gesture which has for a very long time been a request by the community. Our prayers have been answered, we will now be receiving maternity services in the comfort of our village,” he said.
He indicated that the clinic, which would now consist of a delivery room, antenatal room, post-natal room, counselling room, lobby, kitchenette dispensary and medical drug store would complement government efforts in improving health care services.
Dr Dikoloti further commended Trans-Africa for its generosity and ensuring that health comes first as underscored in the President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s Reset Agenda, which focused on the need to save Botswana’s population through the implementation of life-saving programmes as a key priority given the current challenges of COVID-19.
“Trans-Africa and Mooniey Group are cognizant of the fact that we cannot improve our livelihoods without first saving the lives, and for that, we are forever indebted,” he said.
Dr Dikoloti also expressed gratitude to the Indian Embassy for having granted a scholarship programme for youth in Gasita to study under their programme.
He said, although the scholarship could only benefit two people, only one was eligible and had been admitted into the programme.
“Inform those who are interested to further their studies that there is a sponsorship which they can undertake to study either certificate, diploma, degree, depending on their eligibility, all tuition paid for by the institution,” he said.
He also noted that plans were underway to assist in imparting skills to those who were interested in venturing into horticulture, adding that he has identified a farm where they would be taught and given practicals in that area so that they could start their own businesses.
Meanwhile, Dr Dikoloti announced that Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse was to tie a knot on September 24 at the bride’s place in Maseru, Lesotho while celebrations in Botswana would be on October 7.
He, therefore, implored the residents to organise, prepare and set necessary logistics to facilitate themselves in ensuring that they acknowledge their Chief.
In his thanksgiving remarks, Kanye Administrative Authority Sub Council Chairperson, also Gasita Councilor, Mr Simon Ramaphoi expressed his appreciation on behalf of the residents of Gasita to the Trans-Africa and Mooniey Group for their kindness in assisting the community.
Mr Ramapoi noted that the development meant an increase in staff hence the need for accommodation. He said they were in consultation with the Department of Health Management who have since expressed plans to erect staff accommodation to complement the staff accommodation demand that comes with the extension of the health post.
