No plans for new primary school in Radisele MP
26 Apr 2022
Radisele residents have learnt that there were no plans to construct a second primary school in the village.
Serowe South Member of Parliament, Mr Leepetswe Lesedi stated in a kgotla meeting on Monday, following a plea by residents for another school as the existing one was congested.
Mr Lesedi said for now, the project was not included in the National Development Plan.
He, however, implored Radisele Primary School management and teachers to improvise with the little that they had to ensure that pupil’s education was not compromised due to shortage of classrooms.
Mr Lesedi also pleaded with teachers to avoid outdoor classes during the winter season, adding that he had already talked to relevant authorities for procurement of porta cabins to augment shortage of classrooms.
A report from Radisele Village Development Committee had indicated that Radisele Primary School had a population of 857 pupils instead of the stipulated 660.
The VDC report also indicated that the number of children had outgrown the only five dilapidated pit latrines used at the school.
Another demand by the Radisele community was for the number of police officers to be increased at Radisele Police Post as the village had over the years grown to be manned by three officers.
A resident, Mr Rametsi Garebabone suggested reinforcement with special constables as the rate of crime in the village had escalated.
Residents also decried shortage of water and the delay in allocation of residential plots. ENDS
