Cyber bullying is evil - councillor

Cyber bullying is not only contemptible, but can also delay healing of people in unfortunate circumstances, such as those grieving.

Moshupa South councillor Mr Kgosietsile Jankane said this during a condolence gift handover to the Mpedi family on Wednesday. The family lost five small children to drowning in January.

Mr Jankane said it was insensitive of some people to callously talk about the incident and the family on social media platforms, and urged them to refrain from doing so and allow the family peace, rest, time to heal from the tragedy as well as respect.

Speaking at the same occasion, Kgalagadi education region representative, Ms Setlhoko Moipone said both Southern and Kgalagadi regions shared the same goal of ensuring equal access to education, and said they were contributing to the family as a way of commiserating with them.

For his part, headman of arbitration of Tlapalamogau ward, Kgosi Felix Bome applauded Kgalagadi education region for their good gesture.

 He implored the family to look upon God and ignore insensitive social media reports about them.

Family spokesperson, Mr Kgopolelo Mpedi said some of the news doing the rounds on social media were adding grief to grief upon his family. He pleaded with people to show empathy to those going through difficulties, and not to mock them or gossip about their situation.

He expressed profound gratitude to all those who supported the family during its darkest hour. Kgalagadi education region’s made a sympathy gift of P8 000 to the family. ends
