Moshupa Senior Secondary School celebrates excellence

11 Apr 2022

Batswana should expect better results from Moshupa Secondary School, come next Botswana General Certificate of  Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations, school head Mr Herbert Setume, has promised.

He was speaking at the school’s 2021 BGCSE excellence awards ceremony on Saturday.

Mr Setume said following unremarkable performance in 2020, the school set itself a target to be among the country’s top performers, which they managed to achieve the very following year.

“In 2020, we were at position 19 and a year later, after setting our target and working closely with different stakeholders, we managed to scoop position 8…and this is the beginning,” he said proudly.

The school produced eight first classes with 48 points, two of whom were among the nation top achievers. He attributed the good grades to cooperation between the school and stakeholders.

“We have resources such as photocopying machines from Member of Parliament’s office which helped us greatly,” he said.

Mr SetumE urged everyone to continue the good work.

Member of Parliament for Moshupa, Mr Karabo Gare said he was pleasantly surprised at the school’s performance, as he was skeptical when the school head informed him about the target it had set for itself, given its previous performance.

“They proved me wrong, and I am grateful for these great results,” he said.

Mr Gare encouraged the school and stakeholders to keep up the good work.

He reminded everyone that the youth were tomorrow’s leaders, and that it was everyone’s responsibility to nurture them and ensure they excelled in everything they did. University of Botswana (UB) Faculty of Science’s, Professor Julius Atlhopheng reminded the students that education was key to any country’s development.

“You should all say, I attend school so that in the near future, I can meaningfully contribute to the economy. You should not only go to school because you are told to,” he told the students.

He said team work had shown that anything was possible, and congratulated all stakeholders for their part in making sure that the school performed well.

“I hope you will continue with the good work and that we will be here next year for even better results.” he said.

Ofentse Ramagapu, who emerged second among 2021 BGCSE top achievers said he was excited to be the country’s second best performer, which he attained through a lot of hard work and determination.

It was not easy, he said, but was made possible by trust in God as well as support from his parents and teachers.

“Nothing is impossible, as long as you plan well, focus on the goal and be disciplined,” he advised his peers. Excelling students, teaching and non-teaching staff were awarded certificates of excellence. Ends
