Khoemacau rewards top achievers

Khoemacau copper mining has rewarded primary and junior secondary schools around the mine for the 2021 academic performance.

Primary schools; Somelo, Sehithwa, Legotlhwana, Toteng, Bothatogo and Ngami Junior Secondary School in Sehithwa were the benefiaries.  

Learners who obtained Grade A in PSLE were awarded trophies, certificates and school bags.

Sehithwa Primary School was awarded with a printer, laptop and floating trophy for being the best primary school with a 67.7 per cent pass rate.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Khoemacau general manager, Mr Kevin Moxham, said this was meant to reward pupils, teachers and schools who excelled and to also motivate those who did not do well to up their game.

He highlighted that 2021 was one of the most challenging years academically due to the fact that schools were on and off because of COVID-19.

Nevertheless, he stated that it was important for schools to work hard to ensure they produced quality results.

MP for Ngami Mr Carter Hikuama said prize giving ceremonies were a good initiative as they motivate schools to compete academically so that they produce quality learners.

He highlighted that North West as a district was one of the under-performing countrywide hence noted that it brought hope to see company like Khoemacau injecting money into education.

However he stated that the partnership should motivate schools to do better so that the mine doesn’t get discouraged to invest in such initiative.

Mr Hikuama said education was life and noted that it should be taken seriously, “education is the backbone of every person, work hard to carve your future now.”

He stated that schools should be exciting for learners to look forward to attending classes which in return would produce exceling students. He said the environment where a child was raised had an impact on a child’s performance therefore called parents to be vigilant on how they raise children.

In an interview with one of the best performing junior school student, Tshepo Khoota stated that he was excited to have received an award.

Tshepo now a form four at Maun Senior Secondary School stated that Religious Education was his favourite subject at Junior school adding that even at Senior School he still loved Religious Education and excelled in it. ENDS
