Parliament withdraws Motaosane motion
07 Apr 2022
Parliament has withdrawn a motion through which Thamaga/Kumakwane Member of Parliament, Mr Palelo Motaosane was requesting for review of Standing Orders as well as reconstitute some of its committees.
Mr Motaosane had, through an urgent motion, on Tuesday, asked Parliament to consider new Standing Orders for running Parliament proceedings.
The motion further requested for the Parliament Business Advisory Committee and the Committee of Selection to be reconstituted and directed to review the composition of all non-functioning Parliamentary Committees and report to Parliament within 14 days of the resolution.
Mr Motaosane pointed that the Standing Orders were outdated and required to be reviewed in order to facilitate the business of Parliament better.
He said operating with outdated Standing Orders had made Parliament unmanageable.
On Wednesday, Mr Motaosane requested to withdraw the motion, arguing that he had since realised that it was not going to achieve its intended purpose because Parliament would soon go on recess.
“It has come to my attention that Parliament is going on recess within a very few days, therefore, it may not be possible or practical to fully implement what the motion seeks to achieve within the 14 days,” said the legislator. ENDS
