Due to the risks inherent in the intelligence community and the job environment, disclosing the number of Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DIS) officers on interdiction and their ranks will compromise the service and its personnel.Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu said this answering a question in Parliament recently.

Mr Mthimkhulu confirmed that the DIS had a limited number of officers on interdiction and some on paid leave. “Those on interdiction are on full pay and enjoy all benefits and allowances in exception of overtime allowance.

Those on interdiction are not allowed access and use of service weapons and government vehicles. I can also confirm that none of the interdicted have been replaced,” he said. Serowe South MP, Mr Leepetswe Lesedi had asked the minister to state the number of DIS officers on paid leave and reasons thereof and the period of such leave. Mr Lesedi also asked the minister to state, among others, the numbers and ranks of officers on leave with access to service weapons and government vehicles.

He further wanted to know the number of officers on suspension and those facing disciplinary hearing and if any of them on leave had been replaced.ENDS
