Ministry to engage new contractor
06 Apr 2022
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is currently working on engaging another contractor to complete the remaining works in the construction of Borotsi and Makalamabedi clinics. Assistant minister, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe revealed this when responding to a question in Parliament on April 5.
Mr Lelatisitswe said the process of engaging another contractor was at tender evaluation stage. He indicated that the ministry received an intention to donate a clinic in Borotsi in April 2018 by Leseding Interiors. He said construction works commenced in May 2019 and was scheduled to be complete within a year. However, he said the building stalled at window level for more than two years as the donor cited resource constraints because there was another clinic in Makalamabedi, which was being built by the donor and had promised to commence Borotsi Clinic works after completion of the Makalamabedi project.
“The ministry is responsible for construction of the staff housing project, which commenced on September 6, 2018 and was planned to complete on April 25, 2019. Regrettably, the constructor abandoned site in February 2019 and was ultimately terminated on January 14, 2021,” he added.
The assistant minister also told MPs that health and wellness ministry was responsible for the staffing project while Leseding Interiors was responsible for the clinic project. He added that construction of the staff houses was envisaged to commence around next month or June and planned to complete in the third quarter of 2022/23 financial year.
“The donor is currently mobilising resources and the project is envisaged to commence within the first quarter, after completion of Makalamabedi clinic, and expected to complete within a year (that is first quarter 2023/2024) by the same donor, Leseding Interiors,” Mr Lelatisitswe said. Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang, MP for Sefhare/Ramokgonami, had asked the minister to update Parliament on the current state of affairs around the construction of Borotsi Clinic in his constituency. Dr Gobotswang also asked the minister to state if government was responsible for construction of both the clinic facility and staff houses and when the project would be completed.ENDS
