Botswana Oil donates to council

29 Mar 2022

Botswana Oil has donated 35 waste bins to Francistown City Council.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on Monday March 28, nominated councillor, Ms Badubi Lekang said the donation would promote proper waste disposal.

She said the city was on a drive to encourage the private sector to take the lead in promoting the waste value chain.

She said the donation would also boost the city’s campaign for residents to own waste receptacles which started in January 2021.

Ms Lekang said the council’s mandate was to manage and facilitate efficient waste disposal services by ensuring proper waste handling from the point of generation to the final point of disposal.

She added that to fulfill the mandate the provision of waste bins could not be overemphasised.

She said waste that was not properly stored tended to attract unnecessary attention from animals, especially stray dogs, which scattered it, thereby degrading the beauty of the area.

She said over 600 households have since acquired waste bins through their own initiative, saying it was a positive development in encouraging proper waste management.

Botswana Oil general manger, Mr Tshegofatso Kenosi said his company was passionate about uplifting communities within which they operated.

He also said the company had touched the lives of many Batswana by ensuring that the country had adequate supplies of petrol, diesel and paraffin.

He said their corporate social responsibility policy placed emphasis on educational development, the environment and supporting the underprivileged.

“It is in line with this policy that we are here today to donate 35 dust bins,” he said.

He also said the need to lend a helping hand was more critical than ever before because of the disruptions caused by COVID-19.

He also noted that Francistown was home to the largest fuel storage in the country with a capacity of 35 million litres, adding that government had allocated P150 million for the expansion of the depot.

He said they would continue to form strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders and seek ways and opportunities to work with them to keep the environment clean. Ends
