Kgatleng councillors adopt seven motions
28 Mar 2022
The just ended Kgatleng District Council adopted seven motions and deferred three.
One motion was rejected while three were withdrawn.
One of the motions adopted called upon government, through the Ministry of Health and Wellness together with that of Defence, Justice and Security to set up a national DNA database.
Presenting the motion, Cllr Joseph Sebina of Bokaa Ward reasoned that government should have a database with DNAs of all people.
He argued that forensic DNA investigations were successfully carried out through the use of DNA data-base in countries such as Kuwait, Great Britain and Australia.
The council also adopted a motion presented by Cllr Tshepo Ruele of Mosomane Ward that called on the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Ministry of Agriculture Development and Food Security and Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services to consider clustering agricultural youth projects for better marketing and management.
He argued that less than 50 per cent of youth projects were collapsing because of poor management and marketing.
He was also of the view that water provision was a problem and other fundamental needs for projects execution for young people as they ended up relying on others to access funds.
Cllr Ruele also stated that land remained a challenge for youth who wanted to benefit from projects intended to empower them, adding that landboard should cluster young people in order to facilitate them as a group.
The meeting also adopted the motion tabled by councillor for Sikwane Mabalane, Mr Seth Sekate, who called on the council to review the existing policy on the employment of non-certificated artisans in the construction of houses for destitute people and use of locals for such projects.
He argued that the move would encourage the empowerment of communities and revitalise rural economies.
Meanwhile, the council deferred the motion seeking to extend grading of internal roads from Bonatla Bar to new homesteads along Mochudi/Dikwididi Road and Boseja II turn off to new homesteads along Radikolo/Modipane Road due to financial implications.
The motion was tabled by Boseja South, Cllr Gomolemo Gouwe.
The motion that requested that council should hold physical meetings as opposed to virtual meetings to allow smooth running of the council business as tabled by Cllr for Modipane/ Mokatse Cllr Basimanekhumo Hule was rejected. Ends
