Minister hails association for self reliance

27 Mar 2022

Bosa-Bosele Disability Association has been encouraged not to give up in their efforts to drive the spirit of self-reliance and their community’s vision of empowering the disabled.

Specially elected Member of Parliament and the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Ms Peggy Serame said this during the association’s event to raise funds towards fencing their plot in Mabule on Saturday.

Ms Serame noted that residents of Mabule had always been exemplary when it comes to sustaining themselves and dealing with community issues.

“Mabule residents are synonymous with self-driven motivation in accomplishing their vision and attaining their purpose towards improving the lives of their own kind before seeking assistance from elsewhere,” she said.

She said she was proud of her fellow tribesmen and further paid homage to their cause which is aimed at promoting a better future for the disabled, adding that it would improve lives if successful.

She underscored that efforts displayed by Bosa-Bosele should provide a valuable lesson for all to work towards attaining goals before calling for assistance from others.

“Let me encourage other villages and groups around the country to emulate you by exhausting other means to pursue goals and ensuring sustainability before requesting assistance from other stakeholders,” she said.

“Let me assure you of my commitment in ensuring my engagement with your association so that you realise your dreams”.

She, however, appealed to the association to consider seeking for another plot as the current plot was in close proximity to the river and the main road, hence ideal for hotel and tourism project.

Ms Serame further tendered apologies on behalf of the First Lady, Ms Neo Masisi who had planned to grace the event, but was unable to do so due to other commitments.

“The First Lady has promised to avail herself in due course and has pledged P1 000 as part of her contribution. Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Eric Molale and his assistant, Ms Talita Monnakgotla had also wanted to attend but were unable due to other commitments,” she said.

Both Ms Monnakgotla and Ms Serame pledged P300 and P700 respectively and promised their continued support towards the initiative. “Let us stay strong and strive hard to ensure that we propel our effort towards helping our disabled to take a place in contributing to society,” she said.

For her part, Bosa-Bosele Disability Association coordinator, Ms Queen Maiketso said their intention was to raise funds to fence their plot which once developed, would be used to train their members on handwork.

Ms Maiketso further appealed to churches and other parastatals to lend and a helping so that their dream could be realised. ends
