Ministry terminates police post project contract

Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security tender committee has terminated Alpha Pek Investments contract, for abandoning work.
The company was awarded a tender to build Tshidilamolomo police post
The ministry’s facilities manager, Mr Newman Nkosana said the ministry had been lenient with the contractor considering that he was youth, but nothing came of it.
Mr Nkosana said the contractor abandoned the site after receiving payment for roofing and did not respond to correspondence regarding slow progress of the project.
He said they had previously agreed to extend time hoping the contractor would deliver but failed to so.
“We are now in the re-tendering process for a new contractor to finish the job, which was supposed to have finished March 2021,” stated Mr Nkosana.
He said the project was 55 per cent complete and the main components remaining were plastering and electrical works.
Mr Nkosana bemoaned funds mismanagement by youth contractors as a major issue that delayed projects, noting that many lacked project management skills.
For his part the Tshidilamolomo councillor, Mr Mathews Tuelo lamented the slow progress of the project. He said Gamolopo villages needed the facility to fight cattle rustling in the area.
“Stock theft is a major problem in all villages that are in close proximity to the border line. The presence of police would deter thieves,” stated Mr Tuelo.
He said the police post would improve police visibility and service delivery because the entire Molopo enclave currently depended on Phitshane Police Station though some villages were as far as 70km away.
Tshidilamolomo police post is one of over ten posts that are being built across the country in a bid to take services closer to the people. ENDS
