Sua Flamingoes Football Club has decided to build a house for Ms Tebogo Majaga of Mosetse.
Giving a brief on the project at the groundbreaking ceremony in Mosetse on Monday March 21, the team president, Mr Sabelo Matikiti, said when the team was promoted to the premier league, it came up with a social responsibility programme.
He noted that they started fund raising initiatives such as cycling, sponsored walks and seeking funds from stakeholders.
Mr Matikiti said the social community and development officer at the village helped to identify a beneficiary; the 39-year-old mother of 11, who is currently staying in one room with her children.
He pointed out that the house they were building would cost about P120 000 and they intended to furnish it as well as connect electricity and water.
Mr Matikiti said this was their first project, adding that the next one would be in Dukwi.
The aim, he said, was to ensure that their social responsibility programme covered the communities within their vicinity, before they could go beyond their area.
Botash managing director, Mr Kangangwane Phatshwane, said the team had made history by becoming the first club to be promoted to the premier league from the area.
He noted that the mine had a similar programme aimed at giving back to the community and seeing their team also adopting a similar initiative gave them strength to extent a helping hand.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Opelo Ntshwarelang of Mosetse applauded the team for choosing a beneficiary from his village. Ends
