As part of its crystal jubilee celebrations, Boitekanelo College will sponsor 30 students for degree and certificate programmes as well as train 15 families in first aid, all to the tune of P4,6 million.
Founder and president, Dr Tiroyaone Mampane told members of the media Friday that the college had set aside P4 million for sponsorship of 15 degree programme students; P450 000 for 15 certificate programme students; and P200 000 for training of 15 families in first aid. “All the students will be fully sponsored for the duration of their studies,” he said.
Dr Mampane explained the college took the decision to sponsor the 15 families for first aid training after realising that few people had little knowledge of how to administer it.
“We realised that sometimes children die while under the care of parents who cannot administer first aid,” he said.
He said as part of their celebrations, they had a line-up of activities, including a 15-kilometre race billed for May 21, and whose proceeds would go to charity.
Giving a short history of the college, Dr Mampane explained that it started operations on May 7, 2007, with the aim of contributing to human capital development in the health sector in Botswana and Southern Africa. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is expected to attend the main celebration, on May 7. BOPA
