Acquisition of industry knowledge critical

Members of Botswana Secondary Education Teachers Union (BOSETU) have been urged to venture into businesses that they are passionate with, have opportunities and also viable.
Speaking at BOSETU business day in Letlhakane on Saturday March 19, Business Botswana official, Mr Tshekatsheko Setlhomo said it was critical for one to have business knowledge and data analysis skills.
He said acquisition of industry knowledge was important for the business to prosper.
“You can’t run a business without recording, you should be able to account for shortages and that could be done through recording of sales.
As an aspiring entrepreneur, one should have financial accounting skills, noting that a business entrepreneur should not be ashamed to negotiate a discount.
Further, Mr Setlhomo told BOSETU members to acquire knowledge of the business field one intended to venture into, so to acquire knowledge.
He stated that starting business was one way to provide a reliable retirement income and to contribute towards the economic development of the country.
He noted that, BOSETU leadership had realised that its members and most of Batswana retire into poverty with little or no form of income generation.
Mr Setlhomo stated that one of the priorities of the national Reset Agenda was to have mindset change in order to promote creativity, efficiency and productivity to achieve national socio economic development.
For his part Mr Innocent Monyadzwe from BOSETU said the theme of the day was cultivating a corporate mindset and nurturing business skills on BOSETU membership.
Mr Monyadzwe said the aim was also to forge partnership with the corporate world for further working relationship.
Additionally, Mr Monyadzwe said the intention was also to recruit more members into the organisation and give membership access to BOSETU products and services, hence growing the organisation revenue and addressing the customers’ needs.
Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) representative Mr Lelatisitswe Lekwapa encouraged those aspiring to venture into businesses to be ready to operate/managae their business.
Mr Lekwapa said it was crucial to calculate risks and be risk takers. He stated that major requirement at CEDA was a business plan. Ends
