Exigent Investments, in partnership with Fitness Quest, on Saturday March 19 hosted an event, to celebrate women.

The event started with a 10-kilometre walk from Mogonye gorge entrance to its peak and back.

Upon completion of the walk, there was aerobics and stretching, followed by motivational talks by among others; a physiotherapist and a mindfulness coach.

In an interview, Exigent Investments’ managing director, Ms Thato Mahube said the event was meant to celebrate women, empower them and break the gender bias.

She highlighted that she was passionate about promoting a healthy life style hence the idea to bring women together, to celebrate them and in the process instill the discipline of exercising, with a walk and aerobics.

“If women start exercising, living healthy life styles, their families will eventually follow them,” she said.

Ms Mahube said the event went according to their plan and believed women learnt a lot from the speakers, which would benefit them and eventually their families.

“We are leaving this place informed and empowered,” she said.

She urged women to exercise, noting that children learn from their mothers, hence families would follow them.

“It is not an excuse to say I do not have money to exercise as there are different ways of doing it without a cost,” she said.

Managing Director of Kgare Insurance Brokers, Ms Tiny Kgatlwane urged women to break the gender bias that women can never be good as man.

Ms Kgatlwane advised women to have a positive mindset, believe in themselves and always learn to develop their skills and be competitive.

She said it was important for one to be recognised and progress because of their hard work and determination.

“You have to be in charge of your careers, with a positive mindset as that will lead to your success,” she said.

Ms Kgatlwane said for women to be successful entrepreneurs, they had to be resilient, persistent and not afraid of taking risks.

“We should understand that sometimes we would not succeed immediately as there are always ups and downs in business,” she added.

She said whatever women did, it had to be sustainable, urging them to stand up and be counted.

Physiotherapist, Ms Sharon Sebeo said exercising was very important for a healthy life style and urged them to keep fit to avoid communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Ms Sebeo said it was important to eat a balanced diet, as it helped in healing muscles, adding that protein intake helped to build muscle fibres.

She also stressed the importance of drinking a lot of water.

The event was held under the theme: ‘#breakthebias’. Ends
