Botswana Book Project donates books

- Botswana Book Project has donated books, solar lamps and laptops worth more than P320 000 to Maoka Junior Secondary School.Handing over the donation on Friday in Gaborone, Botswana Book Project director, Mr Ezekiel Malenya said the organisation’s aim was to help government in the area of education especially in schools, after realising that many students were performing poorly in English Language.
“After doing rounds in the country, we realised that reading and speaking English was a challenge.
Therefore, we came up with the initiative to donate books to schools in Botswana, to cultivate a culture of reading,” said Mr Malenya.
He said the company had been donating to schools for more than 10 years and had donated to 50 schools.Mr Malenya said they recently donated more than 60 000 books and some study solar lamps to Kgatleng District.
He said the company would soon engage trainers from the US, to equip school librarians in Kgalagadi, Ghanzi and Kgatleng districts on how to better assist students.The company was working with some organisations in America and Europe to achieve the dream of educating Botswana students, he said.Maoka Junior Secondary School head, Mr Collins Mudadi appreciated efforts by Botswana Book Project to develop a habit of reading among students.
He was grateful that the donation would go a long way in helping the 845 students at his school. ends
