In an effort to embrace and invest in technology to provide a simpler and more effective way of service delivery, Emergency Assist 991 Driving Academy has developed an E-learning system for aspiring motor vehicle drivers.
Speaking during the launch of the system in Gaborone Wednesday, Emergency Assist 991 Driving Academy manager, Mr Paul Setswe said the E-learning and virtual classroom system, the first of its kind in Botswana, would contribute to the national 4th Industrial revolution with respect to the application of new technology to facilitate online learning for aspiring motor vehicle drivers.
The platform, he said, also addressed three key areas such as knowledge, skills and attitude.
Mr Setswe highlighted that the innovative application provided a robust and secure environment for learning material, tutorial videos, self-study options, as well as practice quizzes per lesson in preparation for the theory test set by the Department of Road, Transport and Safety.
“Through our online service, learners across the country will have continuous access to our online learning platform through various application devices,” he said.
Also speaking at the occasion, Motor Vehicle Accident Fund CEO, Mr Michael Tlhagwane said since the end of the State of Emergency last year, there had been a significant increase in the number of road traffic accidents in country.
Mr Tlhagwane said according to weekly reports compiled by Botswana Police Services, majority of road accidents recorded were attributable to human behavioural factors.
“This means that behaviour of individuals on the roads is what causes road accidents,” he explained.
Mr Tlhagwane further stated that for the past two years, numerous pedestrians had died in road traffic accidents, which too was attributed to human behavioural influences.
He said one of the reasons pedestrians were frequently involved in road accidents was the advancement of technology such as texting on handsets and listening to audio headsets while crossing the road without observing oncoming traffic.
As such, Mr Tlhagwane urged road users to adopt appropriate road user behaviour in order to save lives.
Moreover, he applauded Emergency Assist 991 Driving Academy for creating an innovative E-learning system for learner drivers, which stresses road safety while embracing technology.
“We are grateful that you are playing your part in promoting road safety by providing an initiative that contributes to road safety awareness,” he said. Ends
