15 Mar 2022

andBeyond Travel Company recently handed over four classrooms, kitchen and ablution blocks at Sexaxa Primary School to the North West District Council (NWDC).

The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NWDC in 2014 to build classrooms for the then satellite school.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony in Sexaxa, the director of technical services in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr States Kabasia, said the school infrastructure was a necessity in ensure children had access to education within close proximity.

He thanked andBeyond for building the school, explaining that an investment in education went a long way in moulding future generations.

He said in the past, Sexaxa children attended school at Matapana Primary School, which was not only far, but exposed them to many risks such as road accidents, animal attacks and sexual violence.

Mr Kabasi said ever since the completion of the four classrooms, the school had enrolled 106 learners from standard one to five.

The school has now been officially accepted as a fully-fledged school.

Mr Kabasi urged the NWDC to submit Sexaxa as one of the schools that would be funded for development as part of the government’s commitment to further develop schools countrywide through NDP 12.

AndBeyond director, Mr Jason King, said their purpose was to place Botswana on the global map as world class tourist destination.

He highlighted that not only do they focused on bringing tourists into the country, but also empowered and developed communities where it operated.

He said andBeyond footprint was visible throughout Southern and East Africa and recently expanded to South America.

Mr King attributed success of the project to consistent dialogue and partnership between them, the Sexaxa community, NWDC, Ministry of Basic Education and Tawana Land Board.

He highlighted that andBeyond was proud to have funded a project that helped realise the community’s dream, promising that they would continue nurturing the partnership to source more funds and build another classroom block.

Mr King thanked every donor for their contribution in ensuring this project was a success and further commended Sexaxa Primary School teachers for their dedication to education.

NWDC chairperson, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho thanked andBeyond for its commitment to changing lives, saying the company had planted a long lasting memory in the hearts of Sexaxa people.

Kgosi Thulaganyo Lekang of Sexaxa thanked the company for its commitment to education, saying their children would no longer walk long distance to school.

He called on government to fully support the school and build more houses for teachers. ENDS
