Mokubilo Clinic battles drug shortage
15 Mar 2022
Mokubilo Clinic is facing shortage of drugs ranging from vital injectables to general ones.
The clinic’s principal registered nurse, Mr Cornelius Motshwarwi told the Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe during his tour of the clinic on Friday that pediatric drugs such as paracetamol, oral rehydration solution, injectables for labour and antibiotics were out of stock.
He said the facility had ordered drugs from Letlhakane Clinic, which also suffered stock shortage.
Mr Motshwari called for an introduction of a maternity wing, noting that her team was strong enough to deliver 10 babies in a week.
For her part, District Health Management Team coordinator, Ms Gasebotho Kedikilwe indicated that her office procured drugs from private pharmacies, but they were still inadequate due to the high demand.
She emphasised public health education, noting that people should be taught how diseases like diarrhoea and non-communicable diseases could be prevented.
Mokubilo/Mmeya councillor, Mr Kemoiponetse Kelatlhegile decried that rural communities bore the brand of drug shortage since their areas had no private pharmacies.
Mr Lelatisitswe is touring clinics to familiarise himself with their challenges.
He indicated that government was doing all it could to ensure availability of drugs in health institutions by acquiring them from private pharmacies.
Mr Lelatisitswe said expansion of Mokubilo Clinic was included in the NDP 12. ENDS
