Ghana women in Botswana together with the Ghana Consulate and the High Commission based in Namibia have donated learning materials to Centre of Deaf Education in Francistown.
Receiving the learning material, which included chairs, tables, books, playing boards and stationery, on Friday acting school head Ms Charity Ngoyi the donation would benefit the children.
She said the school hosted deaf children and had departments such as caretaking, pre-vocational teaching, hostels and nursery classes.
“This school continues to be the main receiver of deaf children in Francistown under Botswana Society for the deaf,” she added.
Ghana community representative Ms Ama-Tosu Kwashie said after personally adopting two of the deaf children through the school adoption programme, she was well aware of how much they needed to prosper.
She encouraged the school management to never fear asking for donations in an endeavour to make learning as effective as possible for the children.
North East Region Principal Speech-Language Pathologist Mr Goitsemodimo Moipei said there was a need to eliminate challenges that could hinder learning especially for children with special needs.
“It is never about the size of the donation but rather the thought behind it and how much difference it makes to the children’s capability to learn,” he said.
This donation ceremony also marked Ghana’s independence which falls on March 6. Ends
