28 Feb 2022

Following two years of suffering the debilitating effects of the COVID-19 scourge, the business community in Chobe area has received a boost from Kazungula Bridge marathon.

The inaugural annual FNB Kazungula Bridge Marathon held over the weekend attracted many participants from Botswana and outside the country as far as Kenya, Zimbabwe and Europe.

Some came for leisure, others came to compete in the marathon while others used the marathon as a part of exercise.

Even more exciting for some was crossing the border to Zambian side without having to produce a passport at the border post.

For those in business it was an opportunity to come and sell their goods and for others it was the day for networking.

The local business women and men came in large numbers to showcase their skills in cooking and arts.

In interview with BOPA, local business woman, who own a  catering company, Ms Gaolotlhoo Kurusa said her business did well during the day of marathon. She said customers came in large numbers.

“I am very excited for today, and I would like to thank those who found it imperative to bring the event of this magnitude to Chobe.

We all know what COVID-19 did to small medium and micro enterprises, we were so much affected by the pandemic,” said Ms Kurusa.

She thanked all who supported her business and urged organisers of the marathon to create more stalls for businesses.

Another business woman who sold sausages and hot dogs at the event Ms Tshimologo Mokgweetsi said business did not do well compared to other days.

She said it was so because the event was held near big stores and customers preferred big supermarkets to SMMEs.

She urged event organisers to choose other places not near chain stores or big supermarkets for SMMEs to also gain something from the event. ends
