A project technical team assembled by SPEDU is currently undertaking a scoping exercise for a 27km Platjan-Mathathane access road.
The scoping exercise of the European Union financed project will detail all key aspects of the project including work breakdown structure, Bobirwa Sub-district chairperson Mr Christopher Motsholapheko said.
He said the exercise commenced February 13 and was expected to be completed by Saturday.
“I welcome this development and encourage the team to work diligently in order to complete the project on time and within schedule,” Mr Motsholapheko appealed.
The access road is financed by European Union at P432 million and the funds will cover construction of the road, supervision and the environmental monitoring aspect of the project.
The scoping exercise follows approval of the pre-feasibility study to construct the access road from the P104-million-Platjan bridge to Mathathane.
On other construction related developments, Mr Motsholapheko informed the sub-council that the 19km block paving of Moletemane access road was 75 per cent complete.
The P45 million project was initially planned for a construction over a period of 12 months, but was delayed by approval of environmental management plan, according to Mr Motsholapheko.
However, the plan was approved in May 2020.
Then COVID-19 hit,, rain season started and mining permits and logistics regarding supply of bricks stalled the progress on the road. To make up for lost time, the contractor is reportedly working extended hours. Ends
