More Batswana appreciate importance of counselling

15 Feb 2022

More Batswana now understand the value and significance of counselling Jo’ Speaks’ Dr Kgomotso Jongman has said.
Speaking during a breakfast session with stakeholders in Mankgodi recently, Dr Jongman said last year alone, the organisation conducted 1 500 counselling sessions, dealing with a myriad of issues.
He said that they had also encountered a lot of dysfunctional family issues as well as lot of adult children issues (adults above the age of 35).
Dr Jongman said parents of these adult children therefore need counselling for both themselves and their older children.
He also lamented the unemployment rate, which he said may lead to a lot of youth suffering from mental health issues.
Dr Jongman said they had also realised that one of the things that break up families were narcissistic behaviours caused by childhood trauma.
He said for such issues they offered individual counselling, adding however that they also did group counselling in families and in schools.
He acknowledged that COVID-19 had also brought a lot of strain and pain in families.
He said another issue they dealt with the most last year was families looking to make peace with the loss of their loved ones.
Meanwhile, Dr Jongman said they referred substance abuse patients to Sabrana Psychiatric Hospital for detoxing before starting counselling sessions. Jo’ Speaks organisation offers services such as counselling, motivational speaking, book publishing, life coaching and social skills training. ENDS
