Swaneng Hill alumni gifts school typist chairs

08 Feb 2022

Education is an important aspect of life, and as such it is  necessary to ensure conducive learning environment for learners so as to promote academic excellence, an alumni and first head boy of the Swaneng Hill School, Mr Otsogile Pitso has said.

He said this at Swaneng school during a hand over of 20 typist chairs worth P30 000 for the school’s computer lab donated by classes of 1972-1975.
He said though during their time there were no privileges such as the ones enjoyed by today’s learners.

This, he said, did not hamper them from doing their best to achieve good results.
He encouraged pupils to do same to secure a bright future.

Mr Pitso said their gesture was inspired by the tradition and history of voluntarism and selflessness of Swaneng Hill School.
He said he had the honour of experiencing first-hand the building of the school, explaining how each and every one of the first pupils to enroll there, contributed to its building.

School head, Ms Gabalape Autlwetse thanked the alumni for their kind gesture, saying  it was heartwarming to see past classes giving back to the school, a sign that they cared about education of the children. She said the school would make sure that the chairs were taken care of.

She encouraged the alumni to continue their partnership with the school as this would not only benefit learners, but would also help them to know how their former school was progressing.
She said Swaneng Hill School had a good educational reputation, and with such donations, the school would  maintain the good record. Ms Autlwetse said they were however concerned with behaviour of their learners.

She implored parents as well as partners of the school to join hands to fight this problem as bad behaviour could lead to poor academic performance.
Kgosi Serogola Seretse, a guest speaker at the handing over, said to give back without expecting anything in return attracted blessings from God.

He said he was impressed by the fact that the alumni, even after many years did not abandon the school, a sign that they still had the spirit of voluntarism.
He encouraged them to keep up the good work as this would  have a positive impact on the education of the children.
He also appreciated the hard work of teachers who were front liners in ensuring academic excellence. ENDS
