Public service employees have been urged to effectively and efficiently deliver on their mandate, in order to better the lives of citizens.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Seherelela on Friday, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kanye South, Dr Lemogang Kwape indicated that public service employees should be at the forefront of bettering citizens’ lives by effectively delivering on their mandate.

The Village Development Committee (VDC), he said should be the eyes of different government departments and provide advice on what needed to be done in the village.

Dr Kwape applauded Seherelela Primary School staff for producing good Standard Seven results, noting that it was a sign that teachers were dedicated. “I also thank parents for the role they played in producing these good results,” he said.

Dr Kwape assured residents that like them, he was not happy with the state of the school infrastructure.

He urged relevant authorities to make sure that the school was maintained in the near future, adding that it was not safe for pupils to learn under such conditions.

Pertaining to lack of employment in the area, the MP advised residents to be innovative and make use of natural resources around them to create employment.

He advised the youth to apply for programmes such as the Youth Development Fund to better their lives.

He further indicated that it was important to form a trust that would come up with innovative ideas to create employment in the area. He advised against misuse of funds once the trust was operational.

For his part, Kgosi Oloetswe Dinaane decried lack of proper roads, noting that their condition made residents’ lives difficult.

Kgosi Dinaane said that they were concerned about leking water pipes around the village, which the Water Utilities Corporation took long to repair.

VDC chairperson, Mr Solomon Turupa informed Dr Kwape that they had acquired six plots in the village, a vegetable field and another plot for an office. He asked the MP to assist in developing them.

He complained about lack of houses for public service employees and a shortage of nurses, adding that the clinic had no vehicle.

Mr Turupa asked the area MP to support building of the village dam and fencing the preschool. He decried of employment in the area, noting that Ipelegeng was their only hope hence his request for increase in the numbers of those employed  under the programme. Ends
