Over 220 enumerators for North East District population housing census
20 Jan 2022
Over 220 enumerators will be employed for the 2022 Population and Housing Census in the North East District.
Speaking during kgotla meetings addressed by the Tati West MP, Mr Simon Moabi in Gulubane, Mambo and Sechele, North East District census officer, Mr Chris Moseki encouraged those with qualifications in fields such as statistics, mathematics, population studies and demographics to apply for the posts.
He added that they sought to recruit highly motivated, energetic and innovative people from the district.
He also urged residents to participate in the exercise, saying it was meant to improve their living standards.
He noted that the exercise would provide information for evidence based development planning and making administrative and policy decisions.
Mr Moseki noted that the exercise could have been undertaken last year, but that it was postponed due to COVID-19.
However, he said a pilot project on the census was undertaken last year to prepare for this year’s exercise.
He said all enumerators would be provided with the necessary items to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 and urged residents to give them the necessary support for the exercise to be a success.
Mr Moseki also noted that the census would be conducted from March 18 to 31.
Meanwhile at Mambo, Mr Moabi commended residents for having been united against COVID-19. He said their contribution helped government to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
On other issues, Mr Moabi also informed residents that all projects funded under the constituency fund were suspended because the money was diverted to fight the pandemic.
He assured residents that once the funds became available the projects would start.
Regarding residential plot allocations in his constituency, MP Moabi said nothing much had been done by the land board to reduce the backlog.
He said since the last major allocation in 2014, the land board allocated six residential plots in 2018 against 58 applications. He, however, said the land board had promised to allocate 36 residential plots by March this year.
He encouraged the youth to apply for residential plots.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Obuile Mambo had complained about delays in the allocation of residential plots.
He also said new residential plots had not been connected to water and electricity.
Kgosi Mambo also informed the MP that their health post was small and that it needed maintenance because the ceiling and rafters were falling despite repeated maintenances.
One resident, Mr Mokgweetsi Malambani complained that projects undertaken by the council were never completed as scheduled, citing the village community hall.
Deputy chairperson of Tati Land Board, Mr Melton Monyamane said the 36 residential plots would be derived from infills whist the remaining 20 would be allocated from available land. ENDS
