Govt pushes Internet connectivity

In a move to promote a digitised economy, all government departments are required to channel funds into Internet connectivity.
Vice President Slumber Tsogwane said this during kgotla meetings in Toromoja and Mmadikola villages on Monday explaining that Internet connectivity was crucial to enhancing efficiency and service delivery.
He stated that the intention was to promote use of online services such as e-health, e-education and e-banking.
Through the Smart-Botswana strategy, government aimed to digitise the economy by ensuring village connectivity across the country, he said.
The vice president said the village connectivity programme, 203 villages would be connected to the Internet during the current financial year.
Village connectivity, he said would take the country to the fourth industrial revolution.
He implored members of the public to familiarize themselves with use of the Internet so as to access online services.
Commenting, Mr Osietswe Morolong of Mmadikola asked if members of the public would be trained on Internet usage.
He requested a second senior secondary school for Boteti Sub-district.
For her part, Toromoja Village Development Committee chairperson Ms Rebecca Ndjavera called for gravelling of village internal roads.
She also requested upgrading of the village’s health post to clinic level as well as a satellite police station.
Ms Ndjavera complained about insufficient medical supplies at the health post.
Responding to request for a second senior secondary school, principal education officer Mr Sainty-Saint Sebopelo explained that Letlhakane Senior Secondary School was a 42-stream institution but had not yet reached it. Ends
