Peace aim of constitutional review dialogue

17 Jan 2022

Constitutional review consultations are aimed at  promoting peace and tranquility in the country, says Vice President Slumber Tsogwane.

He therefore cautioned the public against being influenced by emotions, politics, religion or tribalism in the deliberations.

Mr Tsogwane told kgotla meetings in Mopipi and Kedia on Friday that the ultimate aim was to review and amend some parts of the constitution as well as to update and strengthen some laws.

He called on members of the public to support the  consultations.

Mr Tsogwane also talked about the Decentalisation Policy which he said aimed at bringing services closer to the people.

He informed residents of the two villages that consultations on the policy had commenced  and stressed that decentralisation should not be confused with amendment of tribal/territorial boundaries.

The vice president said it was time to upgrade Boteti Sub-district into a fully-fledged local authority as it was being disadvantaged by the current setup.

Residents were also reminded about the population and housing census   slated for later this year.

For his part, the Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Maikutlo Kenosi expressed concern that brigade students under social welfare programme were not given financial assistance this year resulting in the majority roaming the streets.

Mr Kenosi also complained about lack of power at the village health post saying expectant were compelled to deliver at home. Ends
