COVID-19 still active

Childfen aged aged 12 to 17 have been urged to heed the call to vaccinate against COVID-19 and not be fearful.

Francistown South Member of Parliament Mr Wynter Mmolotsi said this when addressing a kgotla meeting at Block 1’s Ikageleng Ward on Friday, Mr Mmolotsi said adherence to

COVID-19 health prevention measures remained important especially with the now easily transmittable Omicron variant, which is proving to as fatal as previous variants.

He encouraged the fully vaccinated to take a booster dose as soon as it became available, noting that it was important to attain the 70 per cent herd immunity in order to control the disease.

On other issues, Mr Mmolotsi said the country’s economy had endured hardships, which resulted in decreased revenue and forced the Ministry of Finance to seek assistance from various fanciers.

Mr Mmolotsi also informed residents about the upcoming constitutional review inquiry, supplementary voter registration, population census as well as motions that were tabled in Parliament.

In response, residents complained about poor service delivery by government officials despite the fact the country had a small population.

In particular residents complained about the police response time to reported incidents.

The residents also complained about excessive noise at night and prevalent crime. Ward Development Committee chairperson, Mr Chester Ngubevana complained about delayed projects.

For his part, Sergeant Fisani Gonde acknowledged high crime rate in the area and advocated the establishment of a neighbourhood watch committee that would work with the police.

Sgt Gonde said residents should report cases of Gender Based Violence and avoid making a u-turn once they had reached courts of law. ENDS
