Moletemane complains about sub-land board

09 Jan 2022

Moletemane residents have complained about poor service rendered by Bobonong Sub- land Board.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting by Bobonong Member of Parliament, Mr Taolo Lucas Wednesday, some speakers berated the sub land board for what they said was poor performance when compared to Maunatlala Sub-land Board where they were initially serviced.

The unhappy residents proposed that their village shouldgo back to getting services from Maunatlala Sub-land Board, which they said was prompt with communication regarding land and future events.

Among their litany of complaints, speakers noted shortage of officers, leases that took forever to be processed, delays in land transfers, delayed plot allocations in the village and change of land use.

Residents also alleged that the offices of board secretary and chairperson were inaccessible to them even when they had grievances against processes or junior officers.

“We therefore, appeal to you MP to take our complaints up with the board,” said Moletemane village development committee chairperson, Mr Hunter Mokwena.

Mr Mokwena argued that the village had plenty of land to allocate residential plots yet the land board unjustly delayed the process.

This resulted in congestion in many homes because extnded family members were forced to stay together while awaiting plot allocation.

MP Lucas expressed his disappointment at the non-attendance by board secretary and chairperson although they had initially confirmed their attendance. He argued that the two were better placed to address land matters than their juniors or representatives.

His fear was that in some instances, information from representatives was not in tandem with that of the secretary and chairperson.

“If it’s not the issue of discordance of information, sometimes the authorities would refer us to Ngwato Land Board to seek clarification,” said MP Lucas who added that at other times officers would say that the board had not yet sat, when issues of unresolved land matters arose.

The Bobonong legislator expressed worry that his office was receiving too many complaints over land, but that the sub-landboard was not providing any solution.

While conceding that land allocation had taken long to effect in the village, one board member, Ms Dikeledi Lesola explained that the land board was faced with shortage of officers and vehicles.

She said that Bobonong Sub Land Board had only three functional vehicles, one of which was restricted to Bobonong. ENDS
