30 Dec 2021

A Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) update on dam levels across the country has shown a slight decline in water levels despite heavy showers that swept across the country during the Christmas weekend.

However, the Department of Metereological Services had forecasted a moderately wet season over the entire country, that is, normal to above normal precipitation in its seasonal rainfall and temperature outlook update.

As of December 30, Dikgatlhong Dam with a capacity of 400 million cubic metres (MCM), stood at 87.1 per cent. During the same period last year it was 102 per cent.

The dam supplies Greater Gaborone area, some villages in the Central District and BCL mine in Selebi Phikwe.

Letsibogo Dam with a capacity of 100 MCM was at 98 per cent, a slight decline of two per cent from last year.

The dam also supplies Greater Gaborone including villages in the Central District.

Gaborone Dam, with a capacity of 141MCM was at 54.9 per cent, which translates to 46 months supply without inflow.

The 90 MCM Thune Dam recorded a slight increase with 80.9 per cent water levels from last year's 70 per cent.

The dam supplies 10 villages in the Bobirwa area.

Shashe Dam, with a capacity of 85 MCM and supplies Greater Francistown, stood at 85 per cent.
